🔍🏌️‍♂️ The Secret to Lowering My Handicap:

Using the WHS to Reach My Golf Goals This Season ⛳️👊

Alright, guys, it's your boy Andy, and today we're talking about the WHS World Handicap System and how it's going to help me crush my golf game this summer.

So, what the hell is the WHS? Well, it's a new system that calculates your golf handicap based on your best scores over a specific period of time. This means that your handicap reflects your current skill level, rather than an average of all your scores. Pretty sweet, right?

Now, for my plan this summer, I'm going to be playing 20 rounds at my home course. To get the handicap below 10, I think I’ll need to shoot x8 of those rounds under 85. I regularly shoot in the 90s and have hit below this a couple of times and I’ve identified a few key areas I’ll work on to get there more often and below 85.

The Plan

  • Stop losing balls.

  • 150y Accuracy.

  • Pitching from 120-50y.

  • Chip to within a gimme.

  • No 3 putts.

  • Better decision making.

First up, I've got to stop losing balls off the tee. That means I need to get my driver under /control and start hitting it straighter and more consistently. I’ll practice driving 1ce a week as well as focusing on my swing control and basics.

Secondly, I need to work on hitting greens within 150 yards. That's my bread and butter distance, so I've got to make sure I'm dialed in with my irons and hitting accurate shots into the green. Again, I’ll practice this 1ce a week at the range to focus on being confident of hitting the green from that distance.

Thirdly, I've got to get better at pitching accurately between 150-50 yards. This is a tough shot, but I know I can do it with some focused practice. I’ve had a lesson already about this and have figured out which club and type of shot to hit for a range of yardages (more about this to come).

Fourthly, I need to get my chipping game on point. That means getting the ball within a gimmie distance of the hole and minimising the number of strokes it takes me to get in the hole. I have a drill I play with my son called Par 20 where we try and get up and down with 10 balls around the green.

Fifthly, no 3 putts. I've got to be making those shorter putts and not giving away strokes on the green. I’m confident I can do this and my target is under 2.0 average putts per round.

Lastly, I've got to make good decisions even if the execution isn't good. That means not taking unnecessary risks and playing smart golf. This is something I’m working on at the minute and hopefully by playing more I can get some feedback about my decision making to improve.

By focusing on these areas and tracking my progress through the WHS, I'm confident that I can achieve my goal of shooting under 85 eight times out of 20 rounds this summer. That should give me my single figure handicap, boom.
